Matar Mushroom (Peas Mushroom Curry)

Matar Mushroom is a very popular Indian dish.  Green Peas and Mushrooms are cooked with onion, tomatoes and spices.


  • 1 Cup Peas
  • 1/2 Pound Mushrooms
  • 1 Onion (large) chopped fine
  • 2 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoon ginger grated
  • cinnamon stick
  • cardamom
  • 1/2 cup tomato pureed
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric (haldi)
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander (dhania)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder (jeera)
  • oil
  • salt to taste
  • cashew paste (optional)

Cooking Directions

Heat oil in a kadai. Add green cardamom, cinnamon stick and onions and sauté until light golden brown. Add ginger paste and garlic paste and sauté for couple of minutes. Add tomato puree, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and salt and sauté till oil leaves the masala.


(OPTIONAL: Add cashew nuts paste dissolved in one cup of water, to make the gravy rich and creamy.) Add a cup of water, bring the mixture to a boil and then add green peas and mushrooms.

Cook on high heat for seven to eight minutes or till the green peas are fully cooked. Cook on low heat for five minutes. Serve hot.
